By 1453, the Ottomans were advancing towards the European continent. Having defeated the Feodol Turks in Eastern Anatolia and the Serbs in Western Thrace, they laid siege to Constantinople. Helpless, Constantine XI, Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire, turned to the Pope for help. The latter insisted on the union of the Churches as a condition for sending reinforcements. Both Notaras, the Byzantine Commander, and Gennadios the Monk were against this union. The plot thickens with the arrival of a knight everyone suspects of being a spy for the Sultan. George then meets with Anna, Notaras’s daughter, and the two fall in love against all odds, just as the city is under continuous attack. Anna doesn’t know the dark secret George harbours about his past… |
